Information for Liberty BASIC Programmers.....

Where to Find it!

There are many helpful and knowlegeable people in ouronline community, and most questions receive quick replies. It may seem easier, sometimes, to ask for assistance than to look through all of the information that is available for LB. It's a good idea to search for answers yourself also! Many LBers have provided websites and countless other resources to help us write our programs, and they offer a wealth of

When I (Alyce) began using LB in early 1997, there were only a couple of websites! One was the LB site itself, and the other was the Liberty BASIC Programmer's Journal.

I grabbed up every scrap of information available, and wished for more! Now, we have an embarrassment of riches.

Unfortunately, the large number of resources can be overwhelming, and it can take a lot of time to search for a particular answer. Here are some suggestions:

THE COMMUNITY WEB:

http://www.libertybasic.com/CoWeb.1

This site, set up by Carl Gundel, is a terrific resource. Try out the search engine on the site, and see what you can find. Any user may add content to the site, so why not take the time to add your own tips/code/information here, for others to use?

THE LIBERTY BASIC NETWORK:

http://www.liberty-basic.com/

This site is the repository for a huge number of source code examples, plus articles and tutorials, and several message boards. It has its own search engine. Do you want to know how to play a midi file in LB? Just type "midi" into the search engine, and you are good to go!

Again, submit your own programs/demos/articles and share your knowledge with others.

THE LBNEWS eGROUPS ARCHIVE:

http://www.egroups.com/group/lbnews/

This site has an archive of all messages ever sent to this mailing list, including all newsletters that were published since the LB Newsletter moved to eGroups. Attachments are available, also. AND this site has a search engine!

It also has a document vault, which contains MANY valuable files. Anyone may upload files or html to the vault, so this is another great place to share your knowledge with the rest of us.

THE LIBERTY BASIC LINKS PAGE:

http://users.cgiforme.com/sidebyside/ffalp.html

This site lists most of the websites that feature Liberty BASIC. Anyone may add a link, so if you know of any websites that aren't listed, please add them! And please visit the many LB websites listed on this page.

MEKANIXX DESIGNS LIBERTY BASIC PAGE:

http://mechanic.webjump.com/

Visit this site for all of the latest API/DLL information.

THE LIBERTY BASIC HELPFILE:

This is the most overlooked informational source we have! It is really easy to find information in the helpfile, by using the SEARCH feature. If the keyword is not listed in the search/index, just click the FIND tab, type the word into the box, and a list of references points you in the right direction.

THE LIBERTY BASIC TUTORIAL HELPFILE:

If you cannot find the information you need in the regular helpfile, try the tutorial helpfile! It has a lot of important information, with complete explanations.

SAMPLE CODE:

Liberty BASIC ships with quite a few sample programs. I often see questions on message boards and mail lists, whose answers can be found in the many source code samples that Carl has provided. If you haven't done so, take a few minutes to load, read, and run ALL of the samples that come with LB. It will be time well spent.

DEJA.COM:

You might find it useful to do a search of the BASIC usenet newsgroups alt.lang.basic and comp.lang.basic.misc at deja.com. Although the subjects discussed are rarely specific to Libery BASIC, many of the messages can be quite helpful.

LB PACKETS:

http://libertynow.webjump.com/

The Liberty Now! website contains packets of Liberty BASIC source code and articles, gathered together for easy download and use. Please consider submitting your code here to share with others.

ABC PACKETS:

http://www.basicguru.com/abc/

The All BASIC Code archives has packets containing more than 2500 source code examples, in many BASIC dialects, including Liberty BASIC. They have articles and tutorials also. Download the ABC reader, and the many packets. You might also consider submitting your code here to share with others.
