Beginning a Install Build

The program to install is a LB program to Encrypt files, and includes the Liberty runtimes.

First we open the GP-Installer

General Settings

Now choose the General Settings.

Hit Browse and find your main executable. Then name your application. Enter Version, and company name.

Hit Ok and the open the General Settings again and it will have choosen the Default Installation Directory based on the above info. Change if needed.

Make sure the Un-installer creation box is checked, then choose ok.

Screen Design

Now choose Screen Design.

The program has already set up a blue screen install with the title and copyright notice. You can change the background colors, and you can edit the text of the both the title and copywrite with font, and text changes. You can also change the position of these objects. You may also use a bitmap for the main title giving you an even more individualized install. Hit the preview button at any time to see the final result. I am happy with the default so I hit ok.

Files/Groups

Now choose Files/Groups

By Default it sets up 3 groups, (Program Files, Help Files, Examples). The File Groups page allows you to define file groups and which files to include as part of that group. File Groups are used to group files according to certain criteria. For example you may have a group that is installed only when installing to Windows NT, and that these files will only overwrite existing ones if they are a later version. Each group can have a separate installation directory based on the base installation directory, or a completely different directory. Use the toolbar buttons and the right-click context menus to create and modify groups.

Click on the Program Files folder and your main install program is already listed. Now click on the "Add Files to Current Group" icon in the tool bar or right click on the files area to choose the "Add Files to Current Group" drop down. Choose the files to go into your main directory only. Ignore your folders for now. I am placing my basic file and tkn along with all the runtimes. These do not have to be in the same directory, as you may get your runtimes from the LB folder. All files listed will load to the Install Directory choosen by user or your default install directory.

My program has a seperate bmp directory that I store the bmp files. Now click on the "New File Group" icon in the tool bar or right click on the files area to choose the "New File Group" drop down.

I give my new group the name bmp and give a description. I then add "\bmp" to the already default for the install directory, giving me "\bmp". I then hit ok and then choose the bmp folder and add files as I did with the Program Files group.

Now click on the Components Tab and you will have a listing of your file groups along with the 3 default components, Application Files, Help and Tutorial files, and Example Files. Since I do not need Custom installs, and I do not have seperate help files, I will only Install Application Files. Choose the + on the "Applications Files" component. This will show the "Program Files have already been choosen for this group. I now drag my "bmp" file group and drag it to the Application files since the bmp is really application bmp's.

I now have my Program files and bmp files ready for loading. So hit OK.

Dialog / Extentions

Choose Dialog / Extentions and now you get to choose the bmp that will show in your dialogs. There is a default bmp and I will use that for my program so done with that.

Choose Dialog tab and then you get to choose what dialogs you wish the user to see.

I will choose the Welcome Message and hit preview to see how it will look.

Skip the Software License Agreement

On Readme Information I will right click on the edit area and edit my readme file.

Skip the User Information as I do not need that.

Keep the Choose Destination Location and hit preview to make sure it is ok.

Skip Setup Type and Custom Setup as I am not using those.

Choose Select Program Folder and Name your default folder and preview.

Choose Start Copying Files and preview.

Choose Progress Indicator this has no preview.

Skip Billboard

Choose Setup Complete I have decided to have it run my program and not restart computer.

Now Preview.

Now hit OK.

Program Icons

Choose the Program Icons. It starts out blank and this is where we choose to place Shortcuts to our program. Hit New Icon on the tool bar and we choose "Programs Folder". Hit Command and then choose the Program Files Folder and choose our executable. Then make the description to show in the start menu, and hit ok.

I do the same and place the Encryption.bas file as a start menu item also.

Now right click in the Icon window and choose Create Uninstall shortcut. Remember to choose the Start Menu Folder option again.

I now have three Start Menu items and now will add a shortcut to the Desktop. Choose New Icon again and set up the Executable and choose "Desktop Folder" this time.

I now have my four Icons I wish to set up. so hit ok.

I do not have any INI Files or Registry needs so I am pretty much done.

On the main screen, Choose from the tool bar...
